On 8 January 2013 (his 66th birthday), out of nowhere, David Bowie\u2019s<\/a> website announced a new album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ending years of speculation, uncertainty and, yes, longing, the new album was to be titled \u2018The Next Day\u2019 and scheduled for release on 8 March for Australia, 12 March for the United States and 11 March for the rest of the world.  Bowie’s first studio album in a decade, it contains 14 brand new songs plus 3 bonus tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The website announcement acknowledged the length of Bowie\u2019s hiatus as well as his artistic status: <\/p>\n\n\n

“In recent years radio silence has been broken only by endless speculation, rumour and wishful thinking… David is the kind of artist who writes and performs what he wants when he wants … when he has something to say as opposed to something to sell.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n
