A posthumous new album from Leonard Cohen, Thanks for the Dance<\/em>, is set for release via Sony Music on November 22nd. The record is a collection of new songs, marking a continuation of Leonard\u2019s final work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seven months after his father passed, Adam Cohen retreated to a converted garage in his garden down the street from Leonard\u2019s house to work with his father again. From their previous collaboration on You Want It Darker <\/em>there remained bare musical sketches \u2013 at times little more than vocals. Leonard had asked his son to bring these works to completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks for the Dance<\/em> was made in many places, from Berlin to Los Angeles and Montreal. The album features an illustrious roll-call of contributors, including Spanish laud player Javier Mas, Damien Rice, Leslie Feist, Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire<\/a>, Bryce Dessner of The National, composer Dustin O\u2019Halloran, Berlin-based choir Cantus Domus, The Shaar Hashomayim choir, the s t a r g a z e orchestra, Jennifer Warnes and Beck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking about the album, Adam Cohen said, \u201cin composing and arranging the music for his words, we chose his most characteristic musical signatures, in this way keeping him with us. What moves me most about the album is the startled response of those who have heard it. \u2018Leonard lives!\u2019 they say, one after the other.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
