{"id":31443,"date":"2024-07-25T15:26:54","date_gmt":"2024-07-25T14:26:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sonymusic.co.uk\/?p=31443"},"modified":"2024-07-25T15:38:18","modified_gmt":"2024-07-25T14:38:18","slug":"berwyn-and-cat-burns-both-nominated-for-the-2024-mercury-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sonymusic.co.uk\/berwyn-and-cat-burns-both-nominated-for-the-2024-mercury-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"BERWYN and Cat Burns both nominated for the 2024 Mercury Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The twelve Mercury Prize albums of 2024 have been announced, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonymusic.co.uk\/artist\/cat-burns\/\">Cat Burns<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonymusic.co.uk\/artist\/berwyn\/\">BERWYN<\/a> both among those shortlisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Released via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonymusic.co.uk\/label\/columbia-records\/\">Columbia Records<\/a>, <em>Who Am I<\/em> is a vivid and vulnerable journey through BERWYN\u2019s search for meaning and freedom. It comes three years after his Mercury Prize-nominated debut mixtape \u2018Demotape\/Vega\u2019 and showcases BERWYN as an authentic and creative force as he moves seamlessly from rap, R&amp;B, spoken word and poetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also shortlisted is Cat Burns\u2019 first studio album <em>Early Twenties<\/em>, released via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonymusic.co.uk\/label\/since-93\/\">Since \u201893<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonymusic.co.uk\/label\/rca\/\">RCA<\/a>. She described the album as her \u201cattempt at showcasing the highs and lows of being in your early twenties,\u201d adding: \u201cThe album talks about romantic relationships, both my own and people closest to me, whilst also speaking about self-introspection and accepting who you are.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mercury Prize celebrates the albums of the year, highlighting the work of both emerging talent and more established bands and artists, across a range of genres. Albums by British and Irish artists with a UK release date between July 15, 2023 and July 12, 2024 are eligible, with the overall winner to be revealed this September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organisers have confirmed there will be no ticketed public event or usual live performance element this year, with the focus instead on driving engagement via extensive digital content and exposure in partnership
